The Sorbion Sorbact Superabsorbent is a bacteria and fungi binding wound dressing, based on Sorbact Technology. It consists of a Sorbact DACC-coated wound contact layer combined with a superabsorbent core and a water repellent backing, which prevents exudate strike through. The product absorbs and retains exudate, thereby reducing the risk of maceration. Sorbact Superabsorbent prevents and treats wound infections and facilitates the wound healing process. Sorbact wound contact layer is shown to bind wound related pathogens up to seven days in vitro.

Intended Purpose:
Sorbact Superabsorbent is intended for use in management of clean, contaminated, colonized or infected high to excessive exuding wounds, such as pressure ulcers, diabetic foot ulcers, leg ulcers, traumatic wounds and surgical wounds. Sorbact Superabsorbent is intended to be used on superficial wounds.

Intended User and Use Environment:
Sorbact Superabsorbent is intended to be used on children and adults. Sorbact® Superabsorbent is intended to be used by healthcare professionals or by lay persons under supervision of a healthcare professional. The dressing is intended to be used in healthcare facilities and home environment.

Mode of Action:
Sorbact Superabsorbent binds common wound microorganisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus (including MRSA), Streptococcus spp., Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Candida albicans, as shown in vitro. There is no release of antimicrobial agents to the wound.

Clinical Benefits:
Use of Sorbact Superabsorbent can reduce bioburden and prevent infection. The dressing helps reducing pain and can improve wound healing and decrease wound size. Sorbact Superabsorbent absorbs and retains high to excessive exudate levels.

Warnings and Precautions:

• Do not re-use. Sorbact Superabsorbent is for single patient and single use only. Re-use may lead to cross contamination an increased risk of infection.
• Do not use if the peel pouch is already opened or damaged, since the sterility cannot then be guaranteed.
• Do not use on patients with a known hypersensitivity to the dressing (dialkylcarbamoyl chloride [DACCT], cellulose acetate copolyamide, polypropylene, cellulose, polyacrylate, synthetic rubber, polyurethane, acrylic print).
• Do not use in combination with fatty products, such as ointments, creams and solutions as they may decrease the binding of microorganisms.
• Do not use on eyes, mucous membranes or in wound cavities. The dressing swells considerably after fluid absorption.
• Do not use on arterial bleeds or heavily bleeding wounds as the lost blood volume will be undetected.
• Do not re-sterilize.
• If the treated condition deteriorates, fails to improve or a side effect is observed, consult an appropriate clinician.

Storage and Disposal:
Sorbact Superabsorbent shall be stored dry and kept away from sunlight. Store below 40°C/104°F. Disposal should be made according to local environmental procedures.
