The Importance of Infection Control in 2021

As the world continues to deal with the variants of the coronavirus that cause COVID-19, infection control has never been more important, especially for those suffering from existing medical conditions or working with people who have them.

The Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare (2019, updated July 2021; p.19) state that the responsibility for infection prevention and control “applies to everybody working in and visiting a healthcare facility, including administrators, staff, patients and carers”. Given the seriousness of our current situation, it can be added that even those with no connection to the medical field still have a moral obligation to protect themselves from contracting the virus or spreading it to others.

PPE, masks and sanitiser

Having established that infection control in 2021 is of paramount importance, the next question is how best to undertake it. As government-provided safety information has made us well aware, the key strategies are vaccination, social distancing, the use of masks and other personal protective equipment (PPE), and the use of hand sanitiser and strategic employment of cleaning products. This blog entry will focus on the third and fourth of those strategies, highlighting the specialty equipment available from Joya Medical Supplies that can be used to help carry them out effectively.

Order infection control products from Joya Medical Supplies

Joya stocks all of the PPE that a medical professional or carer could want, including hair covers and scarves, goggles and glasses covers, every type of mask and respirator, gowns, aprons, arm protectors, shoe covers and more. As well as this, we have the sorts of devices they require to perform duties such as checking for possible COVID-19 infection, e.g. forehead thermometers.

Of course, Joya has the now-ubiquitous hand sanitiser (and in litre bottles), but also every type of wipes, pads, tissue and towel, not to mention surgical hand scrub, multi-enzyme cleaner and isopropyl alcohol 70% (“bactericidal hospital-grade disinfectant”). In cases where infection is detected, such cleaning products are vital for ensuring it is not transferred further via contact.

We’ve focused on coronaviruses to this point as they are most relevant to the discussion of infection control. However, it should be noted that it’s become doubly necessary in 2021 to guard against infection from other viruses, bacteria, yeast, fungi, etc. which can weaken our immune systems – rendering them less able to deal with COVID-19 should we be unfortunate enough to contract it. Fortunately, the aforementioned equipment is equally useful in protecting us from many different varieties of infection.
